Massage for Pregnancy and Post-Partum
Pregnancy and post-partum are a time of tremendous physical and emotional change. A woman requires special nurturing during this time to facilitate the enjoyment of her pregnancy and help cope with the stress of her changing body and life. As the fetus grows and develops through pregnancy, the pelvis must widen and tip forward to accommodate the extra weight. The resulting postural and gait changes can cause aches and pains throughout the body, with particular strain to the hips, sacrum and low back. Just as quickly as her body must adapt to pregnancy, a woman's body must return to its non-pregnant state while providing for her newborn. Therapeutic massage can provide tremendous relief from these discomforts and help a new mother to physically and emotionally adjust to a shifting center of gravity.
Using the techniques of Orthopedic Massage (Hendrickson Method®) and specialized training in pre-natal and post-partum massage, my sessions address musculo-skeletal pain that arises or worsens with pregnancy. Equally as important, they provide a safe and relaxing space to feel nurtured. I work with pregnant women primarily in a sidelying position with extra pillows for support and alignment.
