The Hendrickson Method of Orthopedic Massage (HOM) is an advanced style of bodywork that addresses musculo-skeletal pain and injury. Using a combination of massage strokes, joint and soft tissue mobilization, and manual resistive techniques, this type of therapeutic massage can release chronic tension and restore balance and alignment. Some of the more common issues I treat are chronic low back, neck, and shoulder pain, nerve entrapments, repetitive strain injuries, ligament sprains, and acute injuries resulting from sports or auto accidents. While orthopedic massage addresses specific issues and the sessions are typically focused to a few areas, many clients enjoy the work for relaxation and health maintenance.
Injury to soft tissue (muscle, tendon, or ligament) leads to the creation of scar tissue and adhesions. Scar tissue occurring as a result of sudden trauma serves to stabilize and protect the area from further injury, however it also can cause a great deal of pain and stiffness and become a chronic condition. Adhesions also form in the soft tissue as a result of overuse of certain parts of the body, such as in the forearms with computer use or in the upper back with postural weakness and rounded shoulders. Fatigue, tension, and pain are common complaints with this type of repetitive strain injury. The techniques of HOM are designed to release and mobilize areas bound by scar tissue and adhesions as well as balance areas of weakness and those of overuse.
My office is located in the Grand Lake Business District of Oakland, California. Sessions are one hour long and cost $100.00. If you are interested in coming in for a session or would like to discuss whether you would benefit from Orthopedic Massage, feel free to contact me at candacep@sbcglobal.net or call (510) 917-7175.
