Background As for many practitioners in my field, it was a circuitous route to a career in massage and doula work. I received a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Oregon in 1997. After returning to the Bay Area, I decided against trying to make my way professionally in music and took a job in the business world. After three years of sitting behind a desk and subsequent back problems, I decided to pursue training in bodywork. My initial certification was in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage from the McKinnon Institute. A year later I began training in the Hendrickson Method of Orthopedic Massage® (HOM). To date I have completed three years of training in HOM®, and am in the process of becoming certified as a teacher of the work. I have also attained certifications in peri-natal and infant massage. Prompted by pregnant clients who wanted me to massage them during labor, I became a certified doula through DONA (Doulas of North America) in 2003, and attend 1-2 births per month in addition to my massage practice. I am very blessed to have a wonderful partner, a beautiful daughter, and a wily basenji, Oscar. We spend much of our spare time hiking, reading, making music, and figuring out how to be mommies. | ||
